| Community

Students from UPEI’s Kinesiology 3430 class are seeking participants to take part in a 4-week exercise training program, plus pre and post assessment sessions (6-weeks total). Students will create personalized exercise training programs for each participant, based on their fitness, skill level, and personal interests.  The program will take place in the UPEI Fitness Centre, and costs $30 + HST.

Matthew Latimer and Shama Huda met Gizmo on a June day in 2014. Friends had told them about a little Shih-Tzu who was surrendered to a local rescue, and they wanted to meet him to see if he might be a good fit for their family.

The recipient of the 2022 Entomological Society of Canada (ESC) Gold Medal is Dr. Donna Giberson, Professor Emerita at the University of Prince Edward Island. The ESC Gold Medal recognizes outstanding achievement in Canadian entomology.

Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for September 12–18 are Brinten Comeau (women’s rugby) and Duncan Murray (men’s soccer).

Some Hellish, the debut novel by Prince Edward Island writer Nicholas Herring, will be launched at a public event on Thursday, October 13, at 7:00 pm at The Gallery Coffee House and Bistro at 82 Great George Street in Charlottetown. Sponsored by the UPEI Faculty of Arts and Department of English, the book launch will feature short readings by Herring and a conversation with Richard Lemm, author and Atlantic Canadian literature professor at UPEI.

The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island, is proud to congratulate Nima Morady, fourth-year doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) student, on being awarded first place in the Humane Society Veterinary Medical Association’s (HSVMA) Compassionate Care Scholarship competition.

The 42nd annual Terry Fox Run will take place on Sunday, September 18, across Canada. The event will once again be held in person, uniting neighbourhoods and schools as they participate in the 2022 Terry Fox Run. This year’s Charlottetown Terry Fox Run will take place at the University of Prince Edward Island Alumni Canada Games Place track. Reilly Sullivan, a fourth-year biology student and a member of the Panthers women’s basketball team, is organizing this year’s event.
