| PD/Wellness

The University of Prince Edward Island is the first university in the country to launch a project working to eradicate human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in Canada. I’m Ready to Know is an initiative of REACH Nexus, a national research group working on how to address HIV and other sexually transmitted and blood-borne infections in Canada. The project has targeted a number of universities, and UPEI is the first one to complete the contract and training and to offer services.

Congratulations to Dr. Jerry Wang, director of recruitment and advisement and the International Student Office at UPEI, on receiving an award from the Canadian Bureau of International Education (CBIE) for his service to the organization.

| Department Updates

UPEI's Sexual Violence Prevention and Response Office (SV-PRO) is a safe and confidential space where students, staff, and faculty who have experienced sexual violence can obtain support. The SV-PRO connects people with services that are trauma-informed and suited to their individual needs.

From December 27–29, 2022, over 60 former members of the UPEI Wind Symphony, representing graduating classes from 1972–2022, will gather at the Dr. Steel Recital Hall to reconnect, rehearse, and perform. Most of the alumni are professional musicians representing diverse careers in the music discipline.

U SPORTS announced today that 23 student-athletes, including UPEI Men’s Hockey Panthers TJ Shea, Kyle Maksimovich, and Matt Brassard, have been selected to play for Team Canada in men’s hockey at the 2023 Federation Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU) Winter World University Games in Lake Placid, New York. The 31st edition of the FISU Games is set for January 11–22, with the men’s hockey event running from January 12–22.

The UPEI Women’s Rugby Panthers have recruited Kiley Brow, a 17-year-old from Saint John, New Brunswick, who plays the prop position and brings a wealth of talent to the team.

| Atlantic Veterinary College

The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at the University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), with support from the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC), hosted its first NSERC Day in Veterinary Medicine on Saturday, November 26.

Dr. Nebojsa Kujundzic, professor of philosophy at the University of Prince Edward Island and affiliate professor at the University of Malta, delivered an opening keynote lecture and chaired two sessions at a conference in Valletta, Malta, on November 17.

UPEI Panthers Men’s Hockey holiday gift packs are now available for purchase at the Eastlink Centre Box Office. The gift pack offers a great deal to watch one of the country's best hockey teams compete for an AUS title and a national championship.
