Ten UPEI students learned about the distinctions and commonalities among Indigenous peoples worldwide by comparing their language and knowledge with that of the Māori people during the Maymester course, “Global Indigenous Language and Cultural Ways of Knowing,” which took place at UPEI and in New Zealand from May 6 to June 13.

The Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC) at UPEI is proud to announce that Dr. Darcy Shaw, professor emeritus, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, is the recipient of the prestigious Distinguished Member Award awarded by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association (CVMA).

The Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative (CWHC), Atlantic Region at the Atlantic Veterinary College (AVC), University of Prince Edward Island (UPEI), is working with the Government of Prince Edward Island’s (PEI) Fish and Wildlife Division to help monitor one of our elusive resident bat species: the Northern Myotis.

While Pride Month is celebrated in June in many areas of Canada, Pride is recognized on PEI and at UPEI in July as part of the national summer-long “Pride season.” Pride PEI—a not-for-profit organization that celebrates and promotes inclusion and diversity and educates and advocates on behalf of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community—organizes the PEI Pride Festival, which this year runs from July 12–21.

The University of Prince Edward Island is proud to announce that Shannon Gillis-Atkins will be the first Panther rugby representative to be inducted into the UPEI Sports Hall of Fame. This prestigious honour recognizes Gillis-Atkins for her outstanding contributions to the sport during her time from 1992–2015.

After 25 seasons with the UPEI Panthers, men’s and women’s soccer coach Lewis Page is set to begin a new chapter with the Halifax Tides FC. The soccer team is a founding club in the Northern Super League, which is committed to excellence in women’s professional soccer in Canada.
