UPEI’s Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation in St. Peter’s Bay hosted a public Open House on Friday, October 21, 2022. Members of the public were invited to tour the 45,000-square-foot facility, which houses the UPEI School of Climate Change and Adaptation, the UPEI Climate Lab, and state-of-the-art research centres of excellence, including the Centre of Excellence in Food Security and Sustainability.

| Department Updates

The first-ever interprofessional simulation lab, involving UPEI nursing students and Holland College paramedicine students, took place on September 23, 2022, at the UPEI Faculty of Nursing in the Health Sciences Building. Fourth-year Nursing 4010 Population Health students and second-year Holland College Advanced Care Paramedicine students, as well as faculty and staff, came together for the day to engage in interprofessional simulated learning with the overall goal of increasing understanding and awareness about the scope, roles, and responsibilities of each profession.

Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for October 17–23 are Emily Duffy (women’s rugby) and Kyle Maksimovich (men’s hockey). Both athletes were also named Subway Atlantic University Sport women’s and men’s Athletes of the Week.

The UPEI Women's Rugby Panthers beat the St. FX X-Women 14-12 on October 20 to clinch a spot in the final against the Acadia Axewomen on Wednesday, October 26, in Wolfville at 6 pm.

UPEI’s Chief Information Officer Dana Sanderson updated the University community on the UPEI Network Modernization Project in messages to students, faculty, and staff this October, which is Cybersecurity Month.

| Athletics

For the first time since 2018, the UPEI Field Hockey Panthers have won the Atlantic University Field Hockey League championship, defeating Saint Mary's in the final 3-0.

The UPEI Men’s Basketball Panthers accomplished many firsts in 2021–22 under Darrell Glenn’s leadership. The team finished with their best record in five years, fielded an all-star, and earned a playoff spot, then went on to play in the AUS conference finals.
