Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Source for Sports Athletes of the Week for February 3–9, 2025, are Devon Lawlor (women’s basketball) and Kyree Thompson (men’s basketball).

Lawlor, a fourth-year guard and science student from Millcove, PEI, was on fire this weekend, showcasing her signature skill—draining three-pointers. In back-to-back wins over the University of New Brunswick Reds and the Dalhousie University Tigers, she shot an impressive 9-for-18 from beyond the arc and averaged 21.5 points per game. Her performance on February 8 was one for the record books, as Lawlor knocked down a UPEI record seven triples and poured in a career-high 26 points.

“Devon had a fantastic weekend for the Panthers, helping propel us to two very important wins,” said head coach Matt Gamblin. “She eclipsed her own UPEI record for threes in a game and set a new career high in scoring once again. She has made big strides this year and isn't done yet.”

Thompson, an arts student from North Preston, Nova Scotia, delivered another impressive weekend for the Panthers, filling the stat sheet and stepping up in key moments. The third-year guard averaged 18.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 2.5 steals across two games while shooting 50 per cent from deep (6-for-12). On February 7, he hit a clutch three-pointer in the final seconds against the University of New Brunswick Reds to force overtime, though the Panthers fell just short. He bounced back during the game on February 8, leading the charge with 17 points in a 68-59 victory over the Dalhousie University Tigers.

“Kyree put together another impressive weekend, scoring 37 points, pulling down eight rebounds and five steals. In addition, he is also taking on tough defensive assignments and continues to impact the game on that side of the floor,” said head coach Darrell Glenn.
