Devon Lawlor and Kaleb Pearson named UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week for November 25–December 1, 2024, are Devon Lawlor (women’s basketball) and Kaleb Pearson (men’s hockey).
Lawlor, a fourth-year business student from Mill Cove, PEI, made several key plays in the 73-71 win over the University of New Brunswick Reds on November 29. She finished with 12 points on 5-of-8 shooting (2-of-3 from three) with three assists.
“Devon had one of her best games of the season, shooting an efficient 5-of-8 from the field and 2-of-3 from three,” said head coach Matt Gamblin. “She was on top of her game when the team really needed it. She made several plays to spark our comeback and then helped us close the deal in the second half.”
Pearson, a fourth-year arts student from St. Mary’s, Ontario, was pivotal in the 5-1 win over the Dalhousie University Tigers on November 30, scoring twice. He also had an assist the night before in a loss to the St. Francis Xavier University X-Men.
“Kaleb had a strong weekend. He was our best forward against St. FX on Friday and then broke through against Dalhousie, scoring two goals,” said head coach Forbes MacPherson.
