UPEI hosts delegation from the Consulate General of Japan
The University of Prince Edward Island hosted a brief visit to campus by Mr. Akihiko Uchikawa, the Consul General of Japan in Montreal on Wednesday, May 22.
Mr. Uchikawa, who was on his first official visit to PEI, was joined by his wife, Ms. Cristina Iori, and the Vice-Consul, Ms. Manami Inaba, and met with a number of University representatives including Dr. Greg Keefe, Interim President; Dr. Sharon Myers, Interim Dean of Arts; Dr. Jerry Wang, Director of Recruitment and Advisement and the International Student Office; Dr. Edward Chung, Director of Asian Studies and Professor of Religious Studies; Ms. Reiko Dolan, Sessional Instructor, Modern Languages; and Dr. Kristin Domike, Program Officer, Office of Study Abroad and International Collaboration.
The meeting at UPEI focused on various areas of interest between Japan and the University such as student recruitment, research, fostering exchanges between Japanese and Canadians, and implementing projects aimed at familiarizing Canadians with Japan.
Mr. Uchikawa joined the Japanese mission in Montreal in September 2023 but has worked alongside Canadian colleagues in multilateral frameworks such as the UN. His past postings abroad include Italy (four times), Thailand, and South Africa. The Consul General of Japan in Montreal’s jurisdiction includes Quebec, Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island.
