UPEI Grad Class 2024 Mix and Mingle a success
The UPEI Department of Alumni and Engagement hosted a social night on Tuesday, April 9 at the Fox & Crow, W.A. Murphy Student Centre. The event was held to help welcome the UPEI Class of 2024 to the UPEI alumni family and was open to all 2024 graduates and UPEI, Saint Dunstan’s University, and Prince of Wales College alumni.
Approximately 200 UPEI Class of 2024 graduates and 16 alumni celebrated the last day of classes with complimentary refreshments, live entertainment by Ryan Merry (BA 2010), door prizes, and complimentary gifts. Two lucky grads, Lethabo Mogodi and Charlize Sahely, also won $1,000 cash prizes sponsored by TD Insurance.
“This event is an important milestone at UPEI to show graduates that even though they are finishing their studies, they will always be an integral part of our community,” said Owen Shaw, UPEI alumni engagement coordinator. “We are so happy to see this event continue to grow and to celebrate the Class of 2024 as they join our alumni network.”
Class president Owen Brown spoke to the crowd about the challenges his class faced over the past four years, referencing the global pandemic, hurricane Fiona, and the UPEI faculty strike.
“As the Class of 2024, our journey has been far from smooth. But through all those challenges, we’ve been able to learn and grow in ways different to most graduating classes. We learned how to be resilient, how to learn in completely new ways, how to remain positive when everything kept going against us, how to keep pushing and pushing. These skills will define our graduation class,” he said. “I’d like to thank UPEI, their staff, the UPEI Student Union, and the UPEI Alumni Association for their support and resources during these challenging times. As we all embark on future endeavours, please continue to embrace these challenges, and remember the UPEI community will always be here for you. Congratulations to the Class of 2024!”
