Sarah Forsythe and Kamari Scott named UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week for January 2–7, 2024, are Sarah Forsythe (women’s hockey) and Kamari Scott (men’s basketball).
Forsythe is a science student from Riverview, New Brunswick. The third-year goaltender was great in the net this weekend, allowing just three goals in two games. She earned a win against Université de Moncton Aigles Bleues on January 6 after turning aside 35 of 37 shots and followed that up with a 15-save performance the following day in a 1-0 loss to Dalhousie University.
“Sarah played really well during both games this weekend,” said head coach Sean Fisher. “She made some highlight reel saves early Saturday and gave us a great chance to win Sunday. Sarah is a tough competitor and a great teammate, so I’m happy she's getting this recognition.”
Scott is a business student and men’s basketball guard from Malton, Ontario. In two games against the University of New Brunswick Reds, he averaged 24.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 1.5 steals per game, while shooting an efficient 50.0 per cent from the field. The Panthers lost the first game on January 5, but salvaged a win the following night.
“Kamari had another fantastic weekend and was playing at a very high level,” said head coach Darrell Glenn. “He scored, defended multiple positions, and created easy scoring opportunities for his teammates.”
