Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Athletes of the Week for September 18–24 are Stefania Angona (women’s cross country) and Isaac Wolters (men’s soccer).

Cross country team member Stefanie Agona is a second-year science student from Brampton, Ontario. She finished in ninth place at the Acadia University Invitational in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, on Saturday, September 23, with a time of 32:58.

“Stefania’s performance is the result of a lot of hard work over the summer,” said head coach Mike Peterson. “She came into camp ready to go and has been crushing it in workouts. Her upbeat style and outgoing nature make her a valuable team member on and off the trail.”

Isaac Wolters, men’s soccer goalkeeper and third-year science student from Springvale, PEI, was named UPEI’s Player of the Game after keeping the Memorial University Sea-Hawks off the scoreboard in a nil-nil draw Friday night. He also played well in Sunday’s game against the University of New Brunswick Reds despite a 2-1 loss.

“Wolters made a number of game-saving stops in both of our games last weekend. He also contributed to our attacks with the quality of his service out of the back,” said head coach Lewis Page. “He even tried to get in the scoresheet by coming forward on a last-minute corner kick. He was competing right to the end.”
