AVC Poster Winners

Students participating in the Atlantic Veterinary College’s 2023 Summer Research Leadership Program presented their posters to faculty, staff, and students on August 31. The Summer Research Leadership Program is designed to introduce DVM students to research career opportunities by involving them in a summer research project with a faculty mentor, with supplemental group sessions and a final poster presentation (and competition) of their work.

Winning first place in the final poster presentation competition was Clare Henderson, Class of 2026, for her poster titled “Investigation of lung and heart parasites of Newfoundland coyotes.” Her supervisor was Dr. Nina Germitsch, and her graduate student mentors were Drs. Kylee Graham and Will Robbins.

Second place was awarded to Devyn Enwright, Class of 2025, for her poster titled “Development of an equine welfare assessment for teaching animals.” She was supervised by Dr. Katy Proudfoot, and her graduate student mentor was Sherry Khoddami.

Placing third was Ève Godin, Class of 2025, supervised by Dr. Cate Creighton, and her graduate student mentor was Dr. Meagan Walker. Her poster was titled “Novel equine pulse oximeter probe.”

Clare and Devyn were also nominated to present their summer research at the Canadian Emerging Veterinary Scholars Summit, which will be held October 26–28, 2023, at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Calgary, Alberta. Congratulations to all award recipients, and well done to all involved.
