UPEI’s Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation hosts Climate Forum 2023
UPEI’s Canadian Centre for Climate Change and Adaptation (CCCCA) in St. Peter’s Bay, PEI, is hosting Climate Forum 2023 from August 16 to 18.
Dr. Xander Wang, associate professor in the UPEI School of Climate Change and Adaptation, said the forum is bringing together world-leading researchers in climate-related fields to discuss the challenges of and opportunities for climate research.
On August 16 and 17, registrants will have the opportunity to go on guided visits to iconic Island features such as Confederation Bridge; lighthouses in Cape Tryon, Covehead Harbour, and East Point; Basin Head Park; PEI National Park-Greenwich; and the communities of North Rustico, Pamure Island, Souris, and Stanley Bridge.
The forum opens officially on Friday at the CCCCA. During the morning, registrants will hear from world-renowned researchers who will give keynote addresses on their work related to climate change and adaptation.
The keynote speakers are Dr. Marc Rosen, Professor, Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, Ontario Tech University; Dr. Arthur Degaetano, Professor in Earth Sciences and Atmospheric Sciences, Cornell University; Dr. Danika van Proosdij, Professor, Department of Geography and Environmental Sciences, Saint Mary’s University; Dr. Amara Mohanty, Professor and Distinguished Research Chair in Sustainable Biomaterials, Ontario Agricultural College, University of Guelph; and Dr. Chris Le, Distinguished University Professor, Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta.
The afternoon agenda will include a panel discussion about climate change mitigation and adaptation, with speakers Dr. Xing-Fang Le, Professor and Canada Research Chair (Tier 1), Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, University of Alberta, and Dr. Manjusri Misra, Professor and Canada Research Chair (Tier 1) in Sustainable Biocomposites, School of Engineering and Department of Plant Agriculture, University of Guelph. A second panel will involve a discussion about the challenges and future directions for climate research. The conference will conclude with a wrap-up and a guided tour of the CCCCA.

The CCCCA is hosting the event through partnerships with Sigma Academy, a non-profit organization dedicated to the advancement of knowledge and technology in climate change mitigation and adaptation, and the Canadian Society for Civil Engineering PEI Section.
