UPEI Presidential Search Committee begins consultation phase with online survey
The Presidential Search Committee launched an online survey today as part of the consultation phase of the 12-month search process that will select a new President and Vice-Chancellor for the University of Prince Edward Island.
“It is absolutely essential that the next President and Vice-Chancellor’s credentials reflect a deep understanding of workplace fairness; are consistent with the University's aim of creating a respectful environment, free of harassment and discrimination; and align with the University’s values and mission,” said Shannon MacDonald, chair of both the Presidential Search Committee and the UPEI Board of Governors.
“Therefore, to ensure that the presidential search results in a successful candidate who meets the University’s and broader community’s expectations, the process includes several phases, one of which is a rigorous consultation phase, allowing us to gather feedback from a variety of voices in a number of ways,” she added.
The Search Committee has met several times with executive search firm Perrett Laver to plan and develop the year-long, multi-phase process for the comprehensive and inclusive search. The planning phase, which is now complete, began in May 2023 with the formation and announcement of the committee.
The consultation phase, which will run through to September, will offer members of the University and broader community several ways to provide input on the development of the candidate profile for the president and vice-chancellor role. One option is to complete the confidential, anonymous online survey that is now available until September 8, 2023 at the following link:

In addition to the survey, the Search Committee will hold virtual and in-person meetings with key stakeholder groups and accept written submissions at presidentialsearch@upei.ca, also until September 8, 2023.
Shannon MacDonald, chair of both the Presidential Search Committee and the UPEI Board of Governors, said, “We remain optimistic about the future and greatly anticipate a high level of constructive engagement throughout the consultation phase of the search process. Thoughtful contributions from community members will be critical to ensure that we have a clear vision of what we need to look for in UPEI’s next President and Vice-Chancellor. The Search Committee thanks all those who participate for their input.”
