UPEI thanks the Hon. Catherine Callbeck as it begins search for new chancellor

The Honourable Catherine Callbeck, who has served as UPEI's Chancellor since 2018, will complete her term in June. 

The University of Prince Edward Island sincerely thanks the Honourable Catherine Callbeck, CM, OPEI, LLD, upon completion of her term of dedicated service to the University as Chancellor.

“UPEI has greatly benefitted from Chancellor Callbeck’s vision, passion, and extensive leadership experience,” said interim President and Vice-Chancellor Greg Keefe. “From co-chairing the Alex Bradshaw Campbell Entrance Scholarship campaign cabinet to attending Panther Sport games to presiding over Convocations, she has been—and is—such a passionate supporter of our University. I thank her sincerely on behalf of the entire University community for her wise counsel, dedication to post-secondary education, and commitment to UPEI and its students.”

The University has now initiated the search for an outstanding individual to fulfill the terms of this prestigious role and invites nominations for the position of Chancellor for a renewable four-year term ending June 30, 2027.

The Chancellor is the volunteer, titular head of the University and a member of the Board of Governors; confers all certificates, diplomas, and degrees; and acts as an important liaison between the University and the wider community. The Chancellor is a distinguished person who has an expressed interest in and commitment to the University and reflects its spirit, vision, and values.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated excellence in their chosen field and in overall service to the community at large. They will have a strong public presence and profile. Nominations should include the nominee’s city/town and province of residence, profession, relationship to UPEI and Prince Edward Island, and involvement in the private and/or public sector, as well as biographical information that would assist the selection committee. Nominations must be forwarded in confidence, no later than June 5, 2023, to chancellorsearch@upei.ca or in care of the Board of Governors, University of Prince Edward Island, 550 University Avenue, Charlottetown, PE, C1A 4P3.
