The University of Prince Edward Island and the UPEI Faculty Association (UPEI FA), Bargaining Unit 1 and Bargaining Unit 2, reached a tentative Collective Agreement on Friday, April 14, 2023.

Details of the settlement will be shared with the relevant parties by their respective bargaining teams. The agreement will need to be ratified by members of the UPEI FA and the University’s Board of Governors before any information is publicly released.

Once the agreement is ratified, this means that the UPEI FA strike will end, faculty will return to work, and classes will resume on Monday, April 17, 2023, subject to approval by the University Senate.

The University thanks all the members of the bargaining teams for their hard work and dedication through this round of bargaining. UPEI also thanks the Government of Prince Edward Island, but, in particular, Premier Dennis King, for supporting the recent mediation process as well as assisting the two parties in the last 24 hours to reach the tentative agreement.

An emergency meeting of the University Senate will take place to finalize the return-to-class plan. Information will be communicated to students, staff, and faculty by their UPEI email accounts as soon as possible. Updates will also continue to be posted on the UPEI Labour Relations website at upei.ca/labour.
