UPEI Women’s Curling Panthers capture silver medal at AUS Championships
The UPEI Women’s Curling Panthers captured a silver medal at the Subway AUS Curling Championships hosted by the University of New Brunswick at the Capital Winter Club in Fredericton, New Brunswick from February 2-5. The team has also qualified for the U SPORTS Curling Championships being held in Sudbury, Ontario from March 15-19.
The team, comprised of Beth Stokes (lead), Sydney Howatt (mate), Lexie Murray (second) and Rachel MacLean (skip), finished with a 4-1 round robin record and a 5-3 semi-final win over Memorial University of Newfoundland. After a hard-fought battle that went into extra ends, the team lost to Dalhousie University 5-4 in the final. This was a very close game with teams exchanging single points back and forth throughout the match.
“The women’s curling team should be proud after a very strong showing at the AUS championships,” said Jane Vessey, UPEI’s Director of Athletics and Recreation. “They played with consistency and determination to bring home a silver medal and we are all certainly proud of their accomplishment.”
