UPEI’s Karem Simon to conduct PEI Symphony Orchestra on March 5

Dr. Karem Simon, professor of music at UPEI, has been invited to serve as guest conductor of the Prince Edward Island Symphony Orchestra in its Goodnight Moon program on Sunday, March 5, 2023, at 2:30 pm, in the Sobey Family Theatre, Confederation Centre of the Arts.

Among the distinctions of Dr. Simon’s career has been his work conducting the UPEI Wind Symphony, which, under his direction, has produced 22 albums and has been acclaimed for its innovative programming and performance standard.

Goodnight Moon is a program of chamber orchestra works featuring Beethoven’s dramatic “Egmont Overture,” a Canadian gem by Claude Champagne titled Danse Villageoise,” and Georges Bizet’s elegant Symphony No. 1. Complementing this program is a variety of opera arias and art songs showcasing two of PEI’s finest mezzo sopranos, Gillian Clow and Hannah O’Donnell. Both are UPEI music alumni who studied with Professor Sung-ha Shin Bouey.
