Sydney Cummins and Kamari Scott named UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for February 6–12 are Sydney Cummins (women’s basketball) and Kamari Scott (men’s basketball).
Cummins, a science student from Wolfville, Nova Scotia, played two great games against Cape Breton University. The second-year guard recorded a double-double, averaging 11.5 points and 10.0 rebounds on 53.3 per cent shooting with 2.5 assists and 3.0 steals, as the Panthers split the weekend series.
“Sydney had another very strong weekend for us,” said head coach Matt Gamblin. “Syd is a warrior and gives every ounce of what she has every night out on the floor. She contributes to winning in a big way.”
Scott, a business student from Malton, Ontario, put himself back in the all-star conversation after a strong performance in Cape Breton over the weekend. The third-year guard averaged a team-high 22.0 points on an efficient 58.6 shooting percentage. He also had 6.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists.
"Kamari has consistently been a warrior for us, defending multiple positions and rebounding way above his weight class,” said head coach Darrell Glenn. “He's a huge part of our offensive and defensive principles and it's exciting to see him benefitting from all his hard work and sacrifices.”
Go Panthers Go!
