UPEI Panthers this week (January 30–February 5)

The UPEI Panthers hockey and basketball teams are looking forward to a full week of games at home and away between January 30–February 5.

Wednesday, February 1
7:00 pm:
The UPEI Men’s Hockey Panthers (15-9-2) are away in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to play the Dalhousie University Tigers (6-18-2). Both teams have split the first four games, each being successful at their home rinks.  

Thursday, February 2–Sunday, February 5
The UPEI Women’s curling team is away at the Capital Winter Club in Fredericton, New Brunswick, for the AUS Curling Championship. The event is hosted by Curling Canada and the University of New Brunswick.

Friday, February 3
6:00 pm:
The UPEI Women’s Basketball Panthers (9-5) host the Saint Mary’s University Huskies (11-4) at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. The Panthers won the first game 79-74. There will be a UPEI Hall of Fame induction pre-game ceremony recognizing UPEI basketball great Eireann Rigby. A star player from 1993 to 1998, Rigby is a very deserving recipient of Panther Sports’ highest form of recognition. This is also Minor Basketball Night, and youth wearing their jerseys are admitted free.

7:30 pm: The UPEI Men’s Hockey Panthers play at home in MacLauchlan Arena A against the St. Francis Xavier X-Men. The Panthers are 3-1 against the X-Men and have outscored them 21-14. This is also Spud Tournament Night, when UPEI Panther fans will be able to catch some simultaneous minor hockey tournament action at MacLauchlan Arena B.

8:00 pm: The UPEI Men’s Basketball Panthers (10-4) host the Saint Mary’s University Huskies (7-8) at the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre. The Panthers won the first game 95-87. This is also Minor Basketball Night, and youth wearing their jerseys are admitted free.

7:00 pm: The UPEI Women’s Hockey Panthers (15-8-1) are away in Sackville, New Brunswick, to play the Mount Allison University Mounties (2-19-2). UPEI won the first two games, outscoring Mount Allison 9-6.

Saturday, February 6
6:00 pm:
The UPEI Women’s Basketball Panthers play the Dalhousie University Tigers at home. The Panthers are looking for redemption after losing their only matchup this season in November, 61-57. This game is “Seniors Night,” recognizing graduating players Karla Yepez, Sydney Whitlock, and Reilly Sullivan before tipoff.

8:00 pm: The UPEI Men’s Basketball Panthers play the Dalhousie University Tigers at home. The Panthers lost the first game to this team 80-73. Graduating players Dakelle Brooks, Isaiah Ankra, Emmanuel Ndatuje, and John Alex Vos will be recognized before tipoff.

7:00 pm: The UPEI Women’s Hockey Panthers are away in Halifax, Nova Scotia, to play the Saint Mary’s University Huskies. The Panthers are 1-2 against the Huskies and have been outscored 8-7.
