UPEI Panthers this Week (January 23–29)
The UPEI Panthers hockey and basketball teams are looking forward to a full week of games between January 23–29.
Wednesday, January 25:
7:00 pm: The UPEI Women’s Hockey Panthers (14-6-1) are away in Antigonish, Nova Scotia, to play against the St. Francis Xavier University X-Women (14-4-3). The two teams faced each other on January 21 with the Panthers earning a 3-2 overtime win. The Panthers are 2-1 against the X-Women this season.
Thursday, January 26:
6:00 pm: The UPEI Women’s Basketball Panthers (8-5) are at home against the University of New Brunswick Reds (9-5). The Panthers won the first game 69-58. This is “Shoot for the Cure Night” in support of the Canadian Cancer Society. Online donations to the UPEI Women’s Basketball Panthers fundraising page can be made here.
8:00 pm: The UPEI Men’s Basketball Panthers (94) host the University of New Brunswick Reds (5-9). The Panthers lost the first meeting between the two teams in overtime 82-79.
Friday, January 27:
7:00 pm: The UPEI Men’s Hockey Panthers (15-7-2) host the Saint Mary’s University Huskies (15-9-0) at the Eastlink Centre in support of Bell Let’s Talk. This is a much-anticipated game as the two teams are vying for a first-round bye with just two points separating them in the standings. The Panthers own a 3-1 record against the Huskies and have outscored them 21-9. This is also Minor Hockey Night.
7:00 pm: The UPEI Women’s Hockey Panthers travel to Fredericton, New Brunswick, to play the University of New Brunswick Reds. The two teams split the season series so far 1-1, with each earning a 3-0 shutout win.
Saturday, January 28:
7:00 pm: The UPEI Men’s Hockey Panthers host the Acadia University Axemen at MacLauchlan Arena. UPEI carries a 3-1 record against Acadia and has outscored them 12-7. This is “AUS Men's Hockey Challenges MS Night” (click here for full story) as well as Men’s Hockey Alumni Night.
7:00 pm: The UPEI Women’s Hockey Panthers are away in Fredericton, New Brunswick, to play the St. Thomas University Tommies. The Panthers are 2-1 against the Tommies and have outscored them 11-7.
