Aiden Rainford and Elijah Miller named UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for January 23–30 are Aiden Rainford (women’s basketball) and Elijah Miller (men’s basketball).
Rainford, a fourth-year forward and psychology student from Toronto, Ontario, was a physical force in the paint and put up 15 points and eight rebounds in a 73-64 win over the University of New Brunswick Reds.
“Aiden has been finding her footing the last few weeks and really contributing on both ends of the floor,” said head coach Matt Gamblin. “Her consistency, as well as that of her teammates, will be very important as we head down the stretch toward playoffs.”
Miller, a third-year point guard and business student from Rexdale, Ontario, scored a team-high 19 points, including three clutch free throws in the final seconds of a low-scoring 49-48 win over the University of New Brunswick Reds. He also grabbed eight rebounds and four assists.
“Elijah had another solid performance—defending, scoring, rebounding, and assisting at a high level. He also made a key three-pointer down the stretch and iced the game with must-make free throws in the final seconds of the game,” said head coach Darrell Glenn.
