Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for October 24–30 are Katie Richard (women’s cross country) and Kamari Scott (men’s basketball).

Richard, a second-year kinesiology student from Charlottetown, finished eighth overall at the AUS Cross Country Championship on Saturday, October 29. She finished the 8km race with a time of 31:10 and was named a second team all-star. The event was hosted by UPEI at Fox Meadow Golf Course.

“Katie put in a lot of work this summer and had a solid showing at Canada Games, so we knew she was trending in the right direction,” said head coach Mike Peterson. “We felt the time was right for her to have an aggressive AUS race and go for an all-star spot. She hasn’t hit her ceiling yet, and I’m optimistic that she’ll be on the podium next year.”

UPEI men’s basketball guard, Kamari Scott of Malton, Ontario, guided the Panthers to a weekend sweep and averaged a conference best of 22.5 points per game on 54.8 per cent shooting in two games against the Cape Breton Capers. He also added 7.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 steals.

“Kamari is a tireless worker both in and out of season, always trying to improve,” said head coach Darrell Glenn. “He played 52 minutes over the weekend and hauled in 14 rebounds, eight assists, and five steals, and shot an impressive 55 per cent from the field.”
