Karla Yepez and TJ Shea named UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and contributions to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for November 7–13 are Karla Yepez (women’s basketball) and TJ Shea (men’s hockey).
A fifth-year business student from Quito, Ecuador, Yepez was instrumental in the Panthers’ weekend sweep of the St. Francis Xavier X-Women. The forward veteran filled the stat sheet both games, averaging 13.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 8.5 assists per game.
"Karla had a great weekend and is truly playing some of the best basketball of her career,” said head coach Matt Gamblin. “Her contribution to winning shows in how she fills up a stat sheet in points, rebounds, assists, steals, blocks, charge taking, and deflections."
UPEI men’s hockey forward, TJ Shea of Tignish, PEI, helped guide the Panthers to wins against the St. Francis Xavier X-Men and Dalhousie Tigers. The third-year forward finished the week with two goals and three assists, including a career-high four points against the X-Men.
"TJ has been terrific for us all season and had another big week. He had two goals and three assists for the week, which included the game-winning goal against Dalhousie Saturday night," said head coach Forbes MacPherson.
