The bargaining committees for both the University and the UPEI Faculty Association (UPEI FA) met separately and jointly several times with the government-appointed conciliation officer over the past month. Conciliation is a normal part of the bargaining process, aimed at helping the parties achieve a negotiated collective agreement.

In the lead up to the joint meetings which were held on October 4, 5, and 12, the University believes we came to the table with a modest set of proposals to amend the collective agreement. We have appreciated the opportunity to discuss our proposals and the proposals from the UPEI FA with the conciliator, and especially want to ensure that Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) and Indigenization are front and centre.

We have made some good progress. The UPEI FA have presented a substantial number of proposals and we still have a way to go in our discussions.

The University is committed to achieving a negotiated collective agreement with our valued faculty, sessional instructors, clinical nursing instructors, and librarians. We will continue to share information with the UPEI community by email. To see this and previous updates, please visit upei.ca/labour. If anyone has questions, please email labour@upei.ca.
