The University of Prince Edward Island – Charlottetown Campus is very fortunate that it has not sustained significant structural damage due to tropical storm Fiona and power has been restored. The Charlottetown campus has lost dozens of trees and thanks UPEI Facilities Management for their work in clearing debris to make the roadways and pathways safe.

However, to be consistent with PEI Emergency Measures Organization's advice to stay off the roads and with so many members of our community without power, UPEI's campuses in Charlottetown and St. Peter's Bay will remain closed on Tuesday, September 27, due to safety concerns and disruptions caused by tropical storm Fiona. All classes, labs, and on-campus events are cancelled. A further update will be made on Tuesday, September 27.

Monitor local media, social media, and the UPEI SAFE app for updates (download from the App Store or Google play).

Please note:

  • UPEI Security Services and UPEI Facilities Management are in full operation.
  • Services for students in residence continue to operate.
  • AVC Veterinary Teaching Hospital will remain open for emergencies.
  • Robertson Library will remain closed.

The W.A. Murphy Student Centre will be open from 8 am-6 pm today as a warming centre for off-campus students, where they can also charge devices. Beginning tomorrow, two additional locations will be available:

  • UPEI Chaplaincy Centre will be open from 8 am-5 pm
  • UPEI Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre will be open from 8 am-6 pm (second floor lobby only-fitness centre and gymnasium will be closed)

We recognize how this situation is stressful. Please remember that UPEI has a number of supports for students through UPEI Student Affairs, including personal counselling (studentserv@upei.ca), Accessibility Services (studentserv@upei.ca), and the International Student Office (irostu@upei.ca). Eligible employees can access the Employee Assistance Program at 1-800-387-4765. We encourage you to reach out for support.
