Sydney Lyndon, Kyle Maksimovich named Panther Subway Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and dedication to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Subway Athletes for February 21 to 27 are Sydney Lyndon (women’s hockey) and Kyle Maksimovich (men’s hockey).
Lyndon scored a beautiful goal and helped the Panthers take down the Mount Allison Mounties 4-2 on February 25 in Sackville, NB. She finished the game with a plus-4 rating and sits tied for eighth with a plus-7 rating overall. Lyndon is also one of the most productive defenders in the AUS with four goals (tied for second) and 11 points (tied for fourth).
“Sydney had a strong effort this past week helping the Panthers to an important four-point weekend,” said head coach Bruce Donaldson. “She scored an end-to-end highlight goal to tie the game versus Mount Allison and ended the game with a plus-4 rating. She sees the ice well; she plays hard and is very difficult to play against. It was fun watching her this past weekend.”
Maksimovich was a strong facilitator for the men’s hockey squad last weekend. Despite losses to St. Francis Xavier and Dalhousie, the second-year forward recorded a pair of assists. His assist on Troy Lajeunesse’s goal against Dalhousie was pivotal as it sent the game to overtime, where the Panthers secured a point in the standings.
“It’s important that we have Kyle playing his best hockey as we prepare for playoffs,” said head coach Forbes MacPherson. “This was a good weekend for Kyle as he continues to grow his game and make a difference for our team.”
