Bailey MacIsaac and Elijah Miller named Panther Subway Athletes of the Week
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and dedication to their respective sports. The UPEI Panther Subway Athletes from March 14–20 are Bailey MacIsaac (track and field) and Elijah Miller (men’s basketball).
MacIsaac didn’t skip a beat after deciding to return for her fifth year with UPEI’s track and field program in December. At the AUS Championships last weekend, the 60-metre specialist captured a silver medal with a sprint time of 7.77 seconds.
“Bailey finished her UPEI track and field career in strong fashion. This silver medal gave her a final tally of three gold and two silver medals at the AUS championships over her five-year career,” said head coach Colin MacAdam. “Bailey's medal was one of five won by the Panthers at the AUS Championships. The Panthers have not won more than one medal in any AUS track and field season until this meet.”
Miller was nothing short of outstanding this past weekend. The sophomore all-star guided the Panthers to the AUS finals, where they would fall to the Dalhousie Tigers in a hard-fought battle. Miller was named a tournament all-star and looked like the best player in the conference as he averaged 28.0 points on 56.8 per cent shooting with 6.0 assists, 6.0 rebounds, and 2.3 steals in three games.
“Elijah had an incredible weekend and proved he is without a doubt the most dynamic and versatile player in the league,” said head coach Darrell Glenn.
