Message from the President: Statement of support for Ukraine
The following message was also distributed to faculty, staff, and students via their @upei.ca email addresses.
Dear Members of the University Community,
On behalf of the University of Prince Edward Island, I am very concerned about Russia’s attacks on Ukraine and the impact this aggression is having on the Ukrainian community and around the world. For the last seventy years, there has been stability in Europe, but events over the past two days have shaken this world order.
UPEI joins post-secondary education institutions across the country in denouncing and condemning Russia’s unwarranted actions against Ukraine as well as calling for an immediate resolution to the conflict.
We recognize that members of our UPEI community may be affected by this military action, and offer support to students, faculty, staff, and alumni and friends, especially those of Ukrainian descent. We also want to recognize other troubling events that are happening around the world and our community members who are impacted.
UPEI has a number of resources for students through UPEI Student Affairs, including personal counselling (studentserv@upei.ca), and the International Student Office (irostu@upei.ca). UPEI faculty and staff can access resources on the HR site on myUPEI while eligible employees can call the Employee Assistance Program at 1-800-387-4765 for support.
UPEI stands strong with Ukraine, and I hope that the situation in Europe will be resolved soon.
Regards,
Greg
