Panthers at Home, November 27 and 28
Both Panther hockey teams defend home ice this weekend at UPEI. The men take on Dalhousie on Saturday night, and the women play Saint Mary’s on Sunday afternoon.
The men’s hockey team is pushing hard to win at the end of November.
“This is a big weekend for our group,” said head coach Forbes MacPherson. “We have two very tough games. We visit St. FX on Friday night and turn around to come back home to play Dalhousie on Saturday. The standings are very tight, and we need to continue to play well and put points in the bank.”
The Saturday game against Dalhousie begins at 7 pm in the MacLauchlan Arena.
On Sunday, the Panther women’s team hosts Saint Mary’s University.
“This will be our fourth meeting this year but just our second in regulation league play,” said head coach Bruce Donaldson. “SMU has been very impressive. They have depth and work well as a team. We will need to battle big time to match their intensity, look to hold their league-leading power-play in check, and take advantage of any opportunities we are given.”
The puck drops at 3 pm in the MacLauchlan Arena. During the game, the Panthers will pay tribute to someone who is very special to the UPEI Women’s Hockey program: Donnie MacFadyen, who has worked as head coach, manager, academic advisor, and any other role that you might imagine could strengthen a hockey team.
“It will be a big day as we are hoisting our first banner in the team’s history in recognition of the 20-plus years of excellence that Donnie MacFadyen has contributed to the program’s success,” said Donaldson. “We are looking to fill the building for this very special occasion.”
