Congratulations, Dr. Tim Goddard, on being appointed Professor Emeritus!
The following tribute was submitted by the Faculty of Education.
Dear colleagues,
It is with great pleasure that we celebrate the appointment of Dr. Tim Goddard as Professor Emeritus at the University of Prince Edward Island. Dr. Goddard retired from UPEI in July, 2019, at the rank of Full Professor. Throughout his career, he demonstrated extensive scholarly activity of exceptionally high quality, focusing on educational administration and governance, particularly in post-conflict, post-colonial, and post-catastrophe contexts. He has been widely published and cited, highly sought-after globally as a keynote speaker and visiting scholar, and beloved by his many students, several of whom were nominated for or won prestigious national awards for their work under his supervision.
His skills and expertise resulted in his holding a number of high-level administrative positions on campus, including his initial recruitment to UPEI as Dean of the Faculty of Education and subsequent appointments to Lead Dean (International), International Liaison Officer (UPEI), and Advisor to the President—International Relations. In addition to these positions, Dr. Goddard was extremely active in the global community founding, designing, and implementing programs, foundations, centres, and institutions that contributed immensely to the development of education around the world, notably as Project Director for the $10.5 million Teacher Certification and Accreditation of Teacher Training Institutions in Afghanistan Project.
Since his retirement, Dr. Goddard continues to be called upon as an educational consultant, both within Canada and globally. He maintains his UPEI affiliation through his work Funding Proposal Reviews for the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC) grants program, and as an external reviewer of application for promotion by members of Faculties of Education across Canada. He serves on the Editorial Boards of the Leadership and Policy in Schools Journal, Global Transitions, and the Journal of Research on Leadership Education and is a long-time Conference Proposal reviewer for the Canadian Association for the Study of Educational Administration. Recently he facilitated the participation of the UPEI Faculty of Education as a member of the Cross-Canada Coordinating Committee for a post-secondary education initiative, coordinated by York University and aimed at helping bring refugee students to Canada.
While it is impossible to appreciate the full impact of his scholarship, teaching, and service to the discipline, university, and broader community in a brief notice, we are delighted to share the news of Dr. Goddard's being named Professor Emeritus with the campus community. Congratulations to Dr. Goddard and to UPEI!
