Remembering Dr. Tom Trenton
We are deeply saddened by the death of Dr. Thomas (Tom) Trenton on September 17, 2020. Tom joined the Department of Sociology and Anthropology, University of Prince Edward Island, in 1973 with his newly minted doctorate from the University of Toronto. He retired in 2009 after 36 years of teaching Sociology.
Completely dedicated to teaching, there is a well-grounded speculation that Tom never missed a class over three and half decades. Tom was unfailingly kind, steadfast, encouraging and empathetic to students and to his colleagues. Tom effectively taught a generation of young people who went on to acquire professional degrees in law, social work, criminology, education while others went on to study Sociology at the graduate level.
One of Tom’s first students, Dr. Frank Levandier, who spent his career in Criminology, recalls Tom’s lasting influence on him, “Dr. Trenton was instrumental in my enrolling in the PhD Program in Sociology at UNB in 2012, almost 40 years later.”
Dr. Tom Trenton is fondly remembered and respected by his students and colleagues and we convey our condolences to his family. See obituary
