Graduates from UPEI’s Faculty of Business accounting specialty had a perfect success rate on the most recent round of the Common Final Examination (CFE). The CFE is the final examination to qualify for the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in Canada and is the culmination of a rigorous two-year graduate level program. Each of the 2017 UPEI grads who wrote the test passed.

Clayton Smith (BBA 2017) achieved a first for Prince Edward Island, scoring in the top one per cent of all writers in Canada. More than 8,700 candidates wrote the 2019 CFE.

“Special recognition goes to our current and former accounting colleagues, as well as our cohort of outstanding sessional instructors,” said Dr. Tarek Mady, interim dean of the Faculty of Business at UPEI. “Because of their dedication and commitment to teaching excellence and student mentorship, our accounting program is one of the best in the country.”

The Common Final Examination (CFE) is a three-day examination requiring candidates to demonstrate depth and breadth of competency development in accordance with the CPA Competency Map. Every aspiring accountant must complete and pass this exam to officially move on to the next stage of their careers as accountants.

“I cannot say enough good things about the quality of the education UPEI students receive and how it prepares them for the CPA program and final exam,” said Tanya O’Brien, CEO of CPA PEI. “The teaching staff at UPEI do an exceptional job, and the University should be very proud of that.”

Congratulations!
