The PEI Symphony Orchestra (PEISO) is hosting a fundraising concert featuring two new Charlottetown residents, including UPEI’s recently appointed assistant professor of piano Magdalena von Eccher. The event takes place in the sanctuary of Charlottetown’s Zion Presbyterian Church 135 Prince Street, on Saturday, March 14, at 7:30 pm. The concert features von Eccher and Glen Montgomery, both recognized as amongst Canada’s outstanding musicians. The concert will present an array of selections including solo, duet, and trio repertoire in a range of styles.

von Eccher has been on faculty at the University of Lethbridge and McGill University and now the University of Prince Edward Island. She is a soloist and chamber musician, performing regularly throughout North America and Europe. Recent engagements include performances at the Festival of the Sound, McGill University’s Musical Chairs Festival, the Canadian Opera Company in Toronto, the Mozarteum in Salzburg, and concerto appearances with the Lethbridge Symphony Orchestra and the Rocky Mountain Symphony Orchestra.

Montgomery leads a dynamic musical life throughout Canada, performing, teaching, and composing. He has performed around the world in such renowned venues as Leningrad’s Philharmonic Hall, New York’s Carnegie Hall, and locales such as Iceland, Japan, and Australia. Montgomery has collaborated with numerous international artists in frequent appearances at the Festival of the Sound, Montreal Chamber Music Festival, and the Ottawa Chamber Music Festival. Over the course of his career, he has been a devoted teacher, with students having achieved national and international acclaim. He has been on the faculties of the Banff Centre, Mount Royal University, University of Ottawa, Conservatoire de Montréal, and the University of Lethbridge.

The programme will feature works by Scarlatti, Beethoven, Gershwin, Debussy, Brahms, Chick Corea, Schubert, and more, with appearances by soprano Shannon Scales (Sirens) and William Costin on French horn.

Tickets are $25 per adult ($20 for PEISO season subscribers) and $10 for students, and can be purchased online at pianoevent.bpt.me/. Proceeds from the event will help support the PEI Symphony Orchestra’s mandate of providing live orchestral music to the province of PEI and fostering growth through educational outreach initiatives.
