UPEI announces the Panther Subway Athletes of the Week, January 20 to 26
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and dedication to their respective sports. Congratulations to Kaylee Dufresne and Owen Headrick, the UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for January 27 to February 2. Headrick was also named the AUS Athlete of the Week!
Dufresne is a fourth-year forward on the UPEI women’s hockey team and a business major from Orleans, Ontario. She scored a pair of goals in the Panthers’ 4–1 win over the Université de Moncton this weekend, and followed it up with two assists in the Panthers’ 5–1 win over Mount Allison University. “Kaylee double-shifted in our win against Mount Allison and played both the power play and power kill,” said coach Bruce Donaldson. “She’s committed to playing at a high level, and her work ethic is really paying off this season.”
Headrick is a fourth-year defenceman on the UPEI men’s hockey team and an arts student from Garden River, Ontario. He has had an outstanding week with four goals over the Panthers’ last three games. “In a week where we captured five of six points as a team in the standings, Owen led the charge with four goals,” said coach Forbes MacPherson. “It was a big week for us to solidify a playoff spot. It was important for Owen to continue contributing to our offence, and he stepped up at a critical time.”
Go Panthers Go!
