UPEI announces the Panther Subway Athletes of the Week, January 6 to 12
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and dedication to their respective sports. Congratulations to Jenna Mae Ellsworth and Elijah Miller, the UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for January 6 to 12.
Ellsworth is a fourth-year guard on the UPEI women’s basketball team and a science major from Charlottetown. Ellsworth continued her outstanding play since her return from injury, averaging 25 points, 8.5 rebounds, and 3 assists per game in two weekend wins against Saint Mary’s University. “Jenna Mae continues to drive the group forward as we hit the midway point of the season,” said coach Matt Gamblin. “We continue to strive to get better every day, and Jenna Mae leads the way with her commitment and work ethic.”
Miller is a rookie point guard on the UPEI men’s basketball team and a business major from Etobicoke, Ontario. Miller now leads the league in assists (6.1 per game), after dishing out 19 assists this past weekend. In the two games at Saint Mary's, Miller averaged 7 points, 9.5 assists, 5.5 rebounds, and 3 steals per night. “Elijah has established himself as one of the bright new stars in our league,” said coach Darrell Glenn.
