UPEI announces the Panther Subway Athletes of the Week, January 20 to 26
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and dedication to their respective sports. Congratulations to Jenna Mae Ellsworth and Jamesley Jerome, the UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for January 20 to 26.
Ellsworth is a fourth-year guard on the UPEI women’s basketball team and a science major from Charlottetown, PEI. She averaged 21.5 points per game in a two-game series this weekend against St. Francis Xavier University. “Jenna Mae had another great weekend and led the team on both ends of the floor,” said coach Matt Gamblin. “She’s playing the best basketball of her career. The element which is scary for opponents is how much room there is for her to grow. She always strives to improve. Every day we are trying to add tools to her game.”
Jerome is a second-year forward on the UPEI men’s basketball team and an arts major from Montreal, Quebec. The Panthers earned a weekend split with St. FX, thanks in large part to Jerome, who averaged 22.5 points and 11.5 rebounds a night. “Jamesley, suffering from patellar tendonitis for much of the second half of the season, came off the bench both nights and put together a very impressive performance,” said coach Darrell Glenn. “In 57 minutes, he shot 19-for-31 (61.3 per cent) and 7-for-9 from the free-throw line. He also hauled down 23 rebounds, dished out five assists, and had one steal and two blocked shots.”
Go Panthers Go!
