UPEI announces the Panther Subway Athletes of the Week, January 13 to 19
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and dedication to their respective sports. Congratulations to Reese Baxendale and Troy Lajeunesse, the UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for January 13 to 19.
Baxendale is a third-year guard on the UPEI women’s basketball team and a science student from Sussex, New Brunswick. She recorded 21 points (shooting 50 per cent), and made three steals, two rebounds, and two assists in an important 62–57 weekend win over Cape Breton University. “Reese has had great moments in her first few years, but has added a level of consistency this year which has helped grow her game and the team’s play,” said coach Matt Gamblin. “Reese’s leadership on the court is really developing. She is currently second in the league in three-pointers and fourth in scoring.”
Lajeunesse is a second-year winger on the UPEI men’s hockey team and an arts student from Dokis, Ontario. The Panthers dropped a couple of games over the weekend, but Lajeunesse shone, scoring a goal against St. Francis Xavier University and finishing the weekend with a +1 rating. “Troy had a very good game for us against St. FX,” said coach Forbes MacPherson. “He played key minutes on the penalty-kill and recorded a power-play goal. It was nice to see Troy get rewarded for his effort.”
Go Panthers Go!
