UPEI announces the Panther Subway Athletes of the Week, November 25 to December 1
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and dedication to their respective sports. Congratulations to Taylor Gillis and Filip Rydstrom, the UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for November 25 to December 1.
Gillis is a second-year forward on the UPEI women’s hockey team and a business major from Summerside, PEI. The Panthers split a pair of games over the weekend, but Gillis shone in Friday’s 3–0 win over Dalhousie University with two goals scored five seconds apart. “Taylor has a great ability to finish off plays,” said coach Bruce Donaldson. “She sees the ice so well and leads the team with nine goals in 18 games. Taylor can seemingly slow down the game, so her moves are very hard to defend against. She has scored some of the prettiest goals in the AUS this term.”
Rydstrom is a third-year forward on the UPEI men’s hockey team and a business student from Stockholm, Sweden. Rydstrom recorded two goals and an assist in a 6–5 win over the St. Francis Xavier X-Men Friday night. “Fil had a great game,” said coach Forbes MacPherson. “He was a presence all over the ice. He took many key face-offs, and played both the power-play and penalty-kill special teams.”
Go Panthers Go!
