University announces new health, safety, and environment manager
UPEI's Vice-President Administration and Finance Jackie Podger is pleased to announce the appointment of Elizabeth Rostant-MacArthur as Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) Manager, effective December 9, 2019. Her office will be located in Kelley Memorial Building.
“Liz brings her own breadth of sector knowledge and institutional experience that will make her a great resource to coordinate the University’s occupational health, safety, and environment management system,” said Podger. “I know she will help us continue our ongoing efforts to raise the bar in the area of occupational HSE policy direction and program delivery, especially vital during this exciting period of change, opportunity, and growth at UPEI. I look forward to continuing to work with her in this new capacity.”
Though new to this role, Rostant-MacArthur is no stranger to UPEI as she has held several positions of increasing responsibility since 1996, when she graduated with her Master of Science. Since 2012, she has held the post of Senior Laboratory Technologist at the Atlantic Veterinary College where she was integral in the development of laboratory health and safety standard operating procedures and biowaste, biohazard, and biosecurity protocols while managing a service lab that provided support to over 30 different diagnostic and teaching labs at AVC.
Rostant-MacArthur will be responsible for the planning, development, implementation, advising and on-going evaluation of Occupational HSE Management System including the OHS Manual, Laboratory Safety Manual, policies, procedure standards and practices. Another important facet of her role will be to ensure compliance with PEI Occupational Health and Safety Act and other government legislation and regulations. Other aspects of the position include serving as the key functional representative on the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee (JOHSC) and local campus health and safety working groups; coordinating and/or conducting occupational HSE inspections and investigating HSE incidents, hazards, and risks; and recommending appropriate actions.
In her spare time, Rostant-MacArthur volunteers with Diabetes Canada and was named Volunteer of the Year in 2019.
Congratulations, Liz!
