UPEI announces the Panther Subway Athletes of the Week, October 7 to 14
Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and dedication to their respective sports. Congratulations to Janel MacKay and Simon Hofley, the UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for October 7 to 14.
MacKay is a second-year flanker on the UPEI women’s rugby team and a science major from South Granville, PEI. MacKay scored a try in the Panthers’ 15–10 loss to Acadia over the weekend. “Janel was part of our dominant scrum and was a demon on defence,” said coach John LaBoyne. “Janel exemplified how hard the team competed.”
Hofley is a fourth-year goalie on the UPEI men’s hockey team and a business student from Ottawa, Ontario. The Panthers went 1 and 1 over the weekend, beating the Université de Moncton 4–1 and losing 3–2 to the top-ranked UNB Reds. Hofley was a force in the net, saving 65 of 69 shots over the weekend. “Simon had a good week for us,” said coach Forbes MacPherson. “He stood strong against U de M in the third period, when they put a push on to tie the game. Simon did his job against UNB to give us a chance to win that game.”
Go Panthers Go!
