UPEI announces the Panther Subway Athletes of the Week, October 14 to 20

Every week, UPEI Athletics and Recreation recognizes two student-athletes for their achievements and dedication to their respective sports. Congratulations to Braylan MacEachern and Ignacio “Nacho” Sanchez, the UPEI Panther Subway Athletes of the Week for October 14 to 20.

MacEachern is a first-year winger on the UPEI women’s soccer team and a science major from Murray River, PEI. She scored two goals in the Panthers 2–1 win over Saint Mary’s University. “The two goals would be what stand out,” said coach Glen Miller of her performance. “For my part, it was how quickly she got organized defensively. She was playing with a laser-like focus on both sides of the ball, and I believe she got rewarded for the quality mental energy she put forth.” 

Sanchez is a fifth-year midfielder on the UPEI men’s soccer team and a business major from Cornwall, PEI. Sanchez came back from injury this weekend and scored both of the Panthers’ two goals in a 2–2 draw with Saint Mary’s. “Nacho provided a true captain’s performance,” said coach Lewis Page, “scoring two goals and hitting the crossbar late in the game. His attacking flair was matched by his defensive intensity.”
