First World War "Pop-Up" Archive

Event Date:
Saturday, June 28, 2014, 2:00 pm
Dig through your attic, then drop-by and have your First World War (1914-1918) documents and artifacts permanently preserved in digital form. UPEI library and History Department staff and students will be scanning and photographing artifacts in the Confederation Centre Public Library from 2-4pm on Wednesday June 25, 2014, and recording anecdotes and stories from the period of the First World War in conjunction with the 11th Biennial L.M. Montgomery Conference. Documents and artifacts from this period might include things like: letters, photographs, battlefield souvenirs, pamphlets, postcards, toys, knitting instructions, recipes, clothing, maps, etc -- if it comes from war years (or thereabouts), we're interested! You will retain your artifacts, but the UPEI library will permanently house the scan/photo of it (and any further details you provide) in an online, accessible format. This may include the Atlantic Canada First World War database, and/or the national Wartime Canada database www.wartimecanada.ca If you have a large amount of material, or items that are awkward to transport, please contact Dr. Sarah Glassford at sglassford@upei.ca to make alternative arrangements for digitization. If necessary, we'll make a house call!
