Candidate Presentation - Animal Welfare

The Departments of Health Management and Companion Animals are interviewing candidates for the tenure-track faculty position in Animal Welfare. As part of the interview process, each candidate has been asked to present two brief seminars; one suitable for DVM students and the other a presentation of their research.

Dr. Stephanie Torrey is the second candidate for the tenure-track faculty position in Animal Welfare. Dr. Torrey is a Senior Research Associate and Associate Graduate Faculty at the University of Guelph with two decades of experience in applied animal behaviour and welfare. She has a B.S. in Biology from Worcester Polytechnic Institute, an M.S. in Animal Science from Purdue University and a PhD in Animal Science from the University of Guelph. She worked as a Research Scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada for 9 years before returning to the University of Guelph. Her research focuses on applied poultry behaviour and welfare. Dr. Torrey’s current and recent research includes studies into feed restriction strategies for fast growing broiler breeders, on-farm methods of euthanasia for chickens and turkeys, and the welfare of broiler chickens that have different rates of growth.
