Today: National public alerting system

Posting Date(s)

Emergency alerts from the PEI Emergency Measures Organization can now be delivered to TV, radio and compatible mobile devices.

Islanders will receive their first mobile test alert on Wednesday, May 9 at 1:55 pm.

The test alert will cause some noise and possible disruption, especially where there are large groups of people in close quarters. During the test, all compatible mobile devices will sound an alert. The alert will indicate that this is just a test. If devices are on silent mode, there will be no sound but the message will still be displayed and the phone may vibrate.

The PEI Emergency Measures Organization is responsible for issuing emergency alerts when there is an immediate risk to the safety of Islanders.

UPEI employees may wish to put their cell phones on silent or vibrate for the test alert period.
