If you have difficulty carving out uninterrupted time for writing, if you struggle with motivating yourself to write, or if you would simply like the supportive collaboration of a writing retreat, consider Time to Write, UPEI's faculty writers retreat.

When: Friday, November 10 to Tuesday, November 14

Where: The Marshlands Inn, Sackville, New Brunswick

Cost to participants: $200, which includes four nights accommodation, meals and snacks

Your project must be at a stage where sustained writing time makes sense. Your research and/or data collection and analysis must be completed to the point that you are ready to write. You must also be prepared to commit to the full program: a total of 3½ days focused on writing.

The retreat is open to tenured and tenure stream University of Prince Edward Island faculty in any Department/Faculty/School.

Professor Anne Warner La Forest, of the University of New Brunswick’s Faculty of Law, will present the 2017 Chief Justice Thane A. Campbell Lectureship in Law on Friday, October 20, at 1:30 pm, in The Guild, Charlottetown. Her presentation is entitled “Canada and International Human Rights Law at 150: A Journey in Three Parts.” Co-sponsored by the University of Prince Edward Island and the Law Foundation of Prince Edward Island, the Chief Justice Thane A. Campbell Lectureship in Law honours Thane A. Campbell, Rhodes Scholar, former premier of Prince Edward Island, and first chancellor of the University of Prince Edward Island.

The lecture is free, but seating is limited. All are welcome!

The UPEI Multicultural Choir and Song Circle meets regularly from 4:30 to 5:30 pm on Wednesday in the SDU Main Building Lounge. Join students, staff, and faculty from all over the world, share songs of many cultures, relax, have fun. All welcome.

The UPEI Sexual Violence Prevention & Response Task Force was struck by the University and the Student Union and began meeting this semester. Time Management and Organizational Skills will be offered on November 20, 2017.

In this dynamic session, participants will learn to prioritize their TO-DO list, limit interruptions, delegate tasks more effectively, and become more aware of activities that waste time. The facilitator will review the basics of such organizational skills as: attention to detail, decision making, problem solving and multi-tasking. Ways to enhance these skills and incorporate them more strongly into your work life will be explored.

There will be hands-on exercises, role plays, discussions, and self-reflection. The day will be fun and interactive and provide practical, concrete methods to improve your time management and organizational skills.

Please join us for a very special presentation by a distinguished visitor from the University of Malta, Dr. Josef Trapani. Dr. Trapani holds Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of Malta and a PhD from the University of Brighton. He is Lecturer in the University of Malta’s Faculty of Health Sciences and is the International Coordinator for that university’s Department of Nursing. His main academic interests include critical care nursing, clinical decision making, evidence-based practice, e-learning, health promotion, qualitative research methodologies, and Maltese linguistics.

On Thursday, October 19th, Dr. Trapani will speak about “Referring in Critical Care: Nurses as Dual Agents”. Research indicates that one of the most frequent nursing decisions is that of seeking help from medical, nursing, or other health care practitioners; yet, there is very limited research around the factors related to, and the actual process of, such referring. Dr. Trapani’s study sought to address this research gap by exploring the factors associated with critical care nurses’ decisions to seek help from doctors, and to explain the process of referral in the context of an intensive care unit by means of a substantive theory derived from the data.
