Relay for Life is a community-based fundraising event for the Canadian Cancer Society, where participants walk around the track, partake in various activities (ie Swing Dancing and Minute to Win it), and join together in the fight against cancer! The first ever combined UPEI/Holland College event is scheduled to take place on Friday, March 15th 2019 from 6pm until midnight in the Chi-Wan Young Sports Centre.

History of Agriculture on PEI
The Environmental Studies Book Club Discussion Series
This winter we will be reading and discussing "Time and a Place: An Environmental History of Prince Edward Island" (2016). Our discussions will probe into past and present environmental changes on PEI, and how and why the Islanders are particularly sensitive to environmental issues and enmeshed in their landscape in a way that is unique among Canadians.
During our third discussion we will talk about the history of agriculture on PEI and will focus on the chapters “The Fertile Crescent: Agricultural Land Use on Prince Edward Island, 1861-1971” by Dr. Joshua MacFadyen and “Agriculture and the Environment on Prince Edward Island, 1969-2014: An Uneasy Relationship” by Mr. Jean-Paul Arsenault.
We are thrilled that the authors, Dr. Joshua MacFadyen and Mr. Jean-Paul Arsenault, will join our discussion.

AS part of the Molecular and Macromolecular Sciences Seminar Program, Anayet Kabir will be giving a presentation on "Diatoms Loaded Self-assembled Nanomaterial for Drug Delivery".
A rapidly expanding field that utilizes nature-inspired materials to create novel and functional biomimetics is known as “Biotemplating”. The diatomaceous earth is an exceptional template for drug delivery applications, owing largely to its highly-ordered pores, large surface area, species specific architecture, and flexibility for surface modifications. Diatomaceous earth have been studied in a wide range of biomedical applications but their potential as the next frontier of drug delivery has yet to be fully exploited. Diatoms are porous silica-based materials obtained from single cell photosynthetic algae. We are evaluating the potential of diatomaceous earth (DE) microparticles for the duel delivery of drugs as cancer therapeutics. The study described the self-assembly of adamantine modified diatomaceous earth in β-cyclodextrin architecture to prepare thixotropic gels of varying mechanical properties. The gels produced exhibit excelled drug absorption capacity and colloidal stability under different pH. The co-encapsulation of drugs in diatomaceous earth containing thixotropic materials is studied and their in vitro anticancer activities are evaluated.

The Healthy Campus Committee is providing a 45 minute class that offers meditation and gentle yoga stretches. The meditation segment of the class creates more calm, inner peace and balance that benefits both your emotional wellbeing and overall health. This is a class for all fitness levels. The class will be held on Mondays at 12;10 pm - 12:55 pm in Fitness Studio #2, March 18. Free but pre-registration required as we only have space for 12.
