The Taylor Institute for Teaching and Learning at the University of Calgary recently developed resources to support Indigenous pedagogy and course design.  These Creative Commons materials can be found as part of the Academic Instructional Skills Program—Introduction to Course (Re) Design 

Overview: The Certificate in Customer and Client Service is designed to give the knowledge, skills, and tools for individuals to improve customer and client service within their organization. Not only are the benefits of improved customer and client service positive feelings and loyalty, but it also improves the workplace morale, which in turn leads to better production and results.

At the end of this certificate, participants will be able to elevate customer and client service both internally and externally within their organization, turn customer and client service failures into learning opportunities—which will lead to positives—and create a culture that will make great customer and client service consistent and a priority among all members of an organization.

Designed for: All people involved with customer and client service, both in a retail and a multi-level organizational sense.  Especially relevant for all executives, entrepreneurs, and professionals who deal with other people within their workplace.

Type of Delivery: In-person.

The deadline for Animal Care Protocol Submissions (new, renewal, or amendment) is Friday, September 2, for the September meeting. 

Please note that as of June 1, 2020, all animal user protocols must be submitted through UPEI Researcher Portal at https://upei.researchservicesoffice.com/Romeo.Researcher/

For new protocols, select "applications" and for renewal or amendment protocols, select "events."

UPEI ACC SOPs and Codes of Practice can be accessed through myUPEI at https://portal.upei.ca/facultystaff/administrativeservices/AVCAnimalCare/Pages/default.aspx

Those protocols received after the deadline will be reviewed the following month. The Committee requires at least one month for processing applications.

Note:  All investigators are reminded that any deviations in animal use, including unexpected mortality, must be reported to the ACC and University Veterinarian Jonathan Spears at 902-620-5026.

This university-level orientation is meant for all newly hired faculty of all ranks and tracks. This event complements the orientation sessions organized by Human Resources and any orientation programming offered by your unit. Our event will feature a large cast of senior administrators, colleagues from a variety of teaching, research, and support units as well as the UPEIFA, our faculty union. In addition to welcoming remarks and a review of key university policies, New Faculty Orientation sessions will include background information and tips to support faculty and student success to help your transition to UPEI be as smooth as possible. Overview: Does your business or organization need social media marketing but don’t know where to start? The Certificate in Social Media Marketing will teach participants the skills needed to successfully manage social media campaigns and create a space to ask as many questions as needed. This interactive certificate strives to give the tools needed for participants to confidently manage social media channels with a confident brand voice. This course will focus on: 

  • Identifying needs within social media platforms 
  • Creating a unique brand voice 
  • Creating a plan that incorporates brand voice

Want to join a nationally recognized and extremely rewarding committee at UPEI? WUSC stands for the World University Services of Canada, a non-profit organization working in over 70 campuses across Canada.

While WUSC offers a variety of programs, UPEI's WUSC committee has focused largely on the Student Refugee Program (SRP). The SRP program involves supporting a student from a refugee camp as they settle in Canada for their post-secondary education. The students are no longer considered refugees in Canada as they receive permanent residency upon arrival. This is unlike any other program in the world. The WUSC SRP committee supports the student's transition to Canada and to UPEI--financially, socially, academically, etc. We also promote education on campus about refugee issues. It's a great organization and group to be a part of.

All permit holders will be reassigned to their current lot/space. New employees will be assigned to the general lots.

We will be setting up our solar telescopes outside the entrance to FSDE every Thursday at noon in August (weather permitting). These events will feature the debut of our new "Sunspotter" telescope that projects a white light image of the sun, plus our old faithful hydrogen-alpha telescope that lets us view the solar atmosphere in red light.

The Department of Companion Animals at the Atlantic Veterinary College will interview Dr. Ana Carolina Brandão de Campos Fonseca Pinto for one of the open tenure-track faculty positions in radiology and diagnostic imaging. Dr. Pinto will be on campus on Thursday, August 4, and Friday, August 5, 2022.

Dr. Pinto completed the following programs from the School of Veterinary Medicine & Animal Sciences at the University of São Paulo in Brazil:  DVM (1995); MS (1999); and PhD (2003).  In between her studies, she has worked as a veterinary radiologist in private practice; been an Assistant Professor, an Associate Professor, and Department Head in the School of Veterinary Medicine & Animal Sciences at the University of São Paulo, Brazil. In 2019, Dr. Pinto moved to the United States and is currently in the third year of a diagnostic imaging residency program at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine.

As part of the interview process, Dr. Pinto has been asked to present a 50-minute seminar on two separate topics: the first, a topic that would be appropriate to teach third-year DVM students; the second, to cover her research interests or demonstrate some of her past research experiences.

Before you go on vacation, make sure you set up your out-of-office message. This gives you a chance to disconnect and recharge away from e-mail and social media. Write a clear out-of-office that explains when you will be gone and when you will respond. It is a good idea to ask a colleague if people can contact them during your absence, and you can do the same for them. Enjoy your vacation!
