Dr. Munro was central to the creation of the UPEI School of Nursing beginning in 1990 when she was seconded from the Faculty of Nursing at the University of Calgary to develop the nursing program at the University of Prince Edward Island. In 1991, Dr. Munro was invited to become the Founding Dean of the new UPEI School of Nursing and remained in that position until July 1997 when she retired. The curriculum of this school was the first in Canada to be developed based directly on the principals of primary health care. In 2000, Dr. Munro wrote the book Forward in Faith: Establishing the School of Nursing at the University of Prince Edward Island telling the story of the School's beginnings. In 2011, the UPEI School of Nursing welcomed its first cohort of Master in Nursing students. Dr. Munro supports the UPEI School of Nursing in many ways.
