| Background: | The Noel MacAleer Award was established by the UPEI Engineering Class of 1979 in tribute to their classmate. Noel entered the Engineering Program at UPEI in 1977. Extremely well-liked and respected by his classmates, enthusiastic and generous, he became a friend to all and motivator for the whole class. An excellent hockey player, Noel's natural leadership ability shone on the ice, as well as in the dressing room and the classroom. People wanted to be on a team with Noel, not just because he was a very capable student who gave every project his all, but because of his genuine desire to make other people happy. Stu dents and faculty had fun when Noel was around. Everyone who knew him was inspired by his courageous battle with the cancer that ended his life so prematurely. |
