Background: | The William A. Reddin Memorial Scholarship has been established at the University of Prince Edward Island to establish a lasting memorial to Mr. Reddin, and in respect of his wishes to support and encourage young scientists with a passion for botany. William Reddin obtained his teaching license from Prince of Wales College in 1917 and taught nature study, agriculture, and general science at PWC from 1933-1942. Many of his students remember him fondly as "Botany Bill". In 1932, while teaching part-time, Mr. Reddin graduated from St. Dunstan's University (Laval) with a B.A., and was valedictorian of his class. Mr. Reddin was pleased to be able to attend in 60th SDU class reunion, and always wore his SDU ring. His fondness and support for Prince of Wales College, St. Dustan's University and their successor, UPEI, is reflected in his wish to establish this scholarship. |
